Description

2012 is ending soon so I thought I'd do a little bit of reflection on my works in general and the direction that I really want to take on. I started uni this year and it has really prompted me to think about myself and my work, so I thought I\'d start by doing this little influence map and perhaps stick it on to my wall and wherever I feel stuck or down I'd just look at it.

1. Sterling Hundley. I've recently just discovered his artworks and it was honestly love at first sight. He's one of my favourite artists now. I find his artworks to be really engaging, and I think of him as a very sincere person plus he's very willing to share his thought and work process. Here is his tumblr: [link]

2. John William Waterhouse. I've loved his works since I was young. :)

3. Sachin Teng or contraomnes as he is known on DA. Like Sterling Hundley, I find Sachin Teng's illustrations to be very interesting. There's a narrative in his works, and a wonderful sense of humour as well.

4. J.C Leyendecker. I hope you've seen his artworks before? If you haven't go check it out and you'll see why he's so popular.

5. Gustav Klimt. I love the way he combines the geometric and organic, and the gold!

6. Kenneth Rocafort. I know he seems a little out of place here, but it is because of him I started reading American comics again and there's just so much energy in his drawing (he also does not have the ability to draw ugly people).

7. Iain Mccaig. There're so many fantastic artists out there, and Mr Mccaig is no doubt one of them, but what's really inspiring about him for me is his personality. He's really genuine, and his outlook in life is amazing. You might want to watch his video here. [link]

8. Alphonse Mucha. I love Art Nouveau, Mucha's my favourite, although I really like Ivan Bilibin's works as well.

9. Vintage Ads. Beats the ads we have today. This website offers a huge collection of vintage ads for your browsing pleasure. [link]

10. Jae Liu or gunnmgally. I realised I'm a huge sucker for artworks that have a wistful, poetic quality, and Jae Liu has the wonderful ability to capture that in her works.

11. Charles Dana Gibson. I really like the way he draws in ink. His artworks are pretty humourous too.

What about you? Who are your influences and inspiration? :)

I really enjoy this particular meme because I love seeing the influences of people who influence me, it's also a great way to discover new artists
